Micro Credit for Farmers

WAY KANAN, NORTHERN LAMPUNG

(Donor: ADRA International)

This is one of several Small Enterprise Development (SED) Projects in Indonesia done and initiated by ADRA Indonesia since December 1998.

The Story of Mrs. Rismala Dewi

Rismala Dewi, 28 years old with 2 children, one of group members at Neki village, and her husband are paddy farmers whose income is dependent on the field. Almost every year they have to rent a small portion. This year, they rent 1 hectare with only 3/4 part being used and have to pay in return around 250 kg of rice. She always attends the group meeting and ADRA trainings where she always learn. They acquired skills in SRI (system rice intensification) and organic farming methods. She became more confident to plant around her idle paddy field the vegetables without any chemical substances or fertilizers. Upon reaping time, she did not sell all the harvests but shared with her family. With her husband, now she is preparing a new bigger land area to plant more vegetables and corn. “Thanks to ADRA for carrying out the project in our village. Now we can learn more and more. We hope that this project will continue for there’s a lot of things that we can learn from ADRA,” cheerfully addressed.
