The Story of Mrs. Yuliati

ADRA has assisted community for Inter-crop System. ADRA encourages farmers to take advantage of the courtyard house and the remaining space in the vicinity of paddy land that has not been utilized. Mrs. Yuliati came from Sumber Baru village has used her yard for vegetable gardening. Previously she only planted vegetables like beans or eggplant but now she began to plant organic water spinach. She was assisted by her husband in cleaning and preparing the land and then harvesting water spinach after 30 days. She succeed to harvest about 68 bunches of water spinach, 28 bunches for neighbors and 40 bunches is sold for the next day. Water spinach is sold at Rp. 1.000 per bunch in the morning market in front of her house which is open every Wednesday morning from 06:00 am to 09:00 am. All water spinach are sold out in short time. Seeing the quality of her water spinach crop, a trader from neighbor villages are interested in purchasing and marketing it elsewhere, but she can not meet the demand because of limited land that she has. In the near future, she will replant her land with the various types of vegetables. It was expected that she can be an inspiration for other beneficiaries who want to take advantage of their remaining land, cultivate it to get additional income so that they could help their families.
