Executive Summary

Communities, families and individuals, old and young, both rural and urban throughout Indonesia, are facing serious widespread economic problems, obviously affecting all other basic social needs sectors. Balanced community development package or model, composed of main small economic development or SED component, and integrated innovative health, education and other community empowerment solutions, has been successfully carried out in various parts of Indonesia by many NGOs including ADRA.

SED receives strong government support and funding through formation of sustainable cooperatives. ADRA Indonesia has capacity and seeks to replicate this model throughout Indonesia, adapted to special local needs conditions, by cooperation with professional partners and local government and communities.Our Experience and Capacity

ADRA Indonesia’s capacity for SED work:

• Ten years of SED successful implementation in Jakarta’s western and northern poor and 2 years in Klaten Yogyakarta earth-quake affected communities.

• Jakarta work, in past 5 years, has grown 3 cooperatives of 343 members and 1,100 beneficiaries with savings up to Rp. 155 million and working capital Rp. 428 million.

• Kampung Bandan won 6th place at Jakarta Province Best Cooperative Competition in 2007

• Team of SED mentors and trainers has wide experiences and continuous skills improvement through training and internal capacity building.

ADRA Indonesia is managing Tsunami projects in West Aceh for past 3 years mainly in Education amounting to US$7 million to successful completion July 2008. Country Office leadership and management is strong to give guidance and support to our capable field teams

Our Vision and Model

ADRA Indonesia will commission Mentoring Teams to help local communities throughout Indonesia gain knowledge and skills, through various phases of capacity development, to become Sustainable Economic and Development Entities. Comprehensive assessment and planning is required.

Our integrated package includes:

• Building strong mental-spiritual character and vigilance

• Forming strong teamwork and cooperative groups

• Training strong entrepreneurial spirit and business management as well as specific vocational skills

• Initiatives for related education and health development

• Facilitating for local government and other support and funding especially for cooperatives sustainability (departments of cooperatives, commerceand industry, labour, etc)
